MATH AT HOME
Here are some activities you can do to help your child practice the math he or she is learning at school.
  • Ask your child to write a single or two-digit number on a piece of paper.  Name the single or two-digit number and ask your child to tell you if the number he or she wrote is higher or lower.  Continue until you have guessed the number.  Repeat several times.  Reverse the roles and have your child guess.
  • Arrange six household items in a horizontal row.  For example, arrange a fork, a spoon, a cup, a plate, a glass, and a bowl in the horizontal row on the table.  Ask your child to begin on the left and say the name of each item.  Then ask your child to name the item that is fourth or tell the ordinal position of the bowl.  Continue until a question has been asked about each item.
Practice going through the number chart below. Students need to recognize the numbers in any order, and be able to count forward and backward through the numbers.
